Q. What to expect at the entrant level? (Ups and downs during the early years)
• Raising queries no matter if they are irrelevant at first.
• Suggesting one or two possible work plans for a problem at hand, it doesn’t matter if they get shot down.
• Not to repeat the same question the 3rd time.
• Not to repeat the same mistake the 3rd time.
• If things are getting out of control, take your boss in confidence before it explodes.
• Try to convince or be convinced.
• Meeting deadlines.
• Discipline.
Q. Explain the Career progress that is typical to this field? (Growth pattern/ promotion chances/ overseas placements)
Media in Pakistan is surely in the growth stage rather is slowly progressing towards maturity and soon quality will prevail over quantity. Growth over the past 4-5 years has been exponential because of the mushrooming growth of channels, however, now it’s been stabilized but there’s still room for specialized media person to grow in the field. Since there are too many channels and not that many qualified professionals, plus job switching are a norm, chances of frequent promotion in the current organization or a new one are still there. There are hardly any chances of an overseas placement unless you are in the technical field.

Q. Do employers have a preference for certain individuals? (CGPA or a specialized Bachelors or masters requirement)
BBA is certainly something that can get you an interview call for the entry level job but since there are too many MBAs around, it is now becoming a norm. CGPA, at least in my case, didn’t come into account all these years. Employers (smart ones) always look for the individuals who show some sparks.

Integrity, honesty, dedication, curiosity, and a pleasant attitude are not just words in the dictionary. They can cement your place as well as take you higher up in the corporate world no matter where you are working. Respect your seniors and juniors alike because it’s a two way road, a lack of respect is often meet with the same result.
