We are also excited to unveil an upcoming event that holds great promise for our aspiring alumni - the Mentorship Series, featuring the distinguished Mr. Shakir Moin, Chief of Marketing of Coca-Cola North America. Friday, August 25, 2023: The IBA Alumni Affairs Department took a significant step forward with their "Invite IBA" initiative by engaging with Unilever Pakistan. This ongoing initiative aims to build connections and facilitate meaningful discussions between IBA and other institutions. The event, hosted generously by Unilever, featured a one-hour interactive session moderated by Mr. Amir Paracha, Chairman & CEO of Unilever Pakistan in conversation with Dr. S Akbar Zaidi, Executive Director, IBA. The session was moderated masterfully on the central theme of "Brain Drain & Brain Circulation" addressing the contemporary challenge of a considerable number of young graduates seeking opportunities abroad, which consequently results in a loss of potential talent for their home country.
The event took place at Unilever's Pakistan HQ with over 100 participants with a blend of both physical and virtual participants. We are delighted to unveil our forthcoming Mentorship Series, presenting an eminent luminary, Mr. Shakir Moin, who currently serves as the Chief of Marketing for Coca-Cola, North America. Shakir Moin accomplished his Master of Business Administration in Marketing from IBA in 1993. With a wealth of professional acumen, he has consistently demonstrated his steadfast commitment and significant contributions to the industry. His journey at Coca-Cola has been illustrious, marked by significant leadership roles, including his tenure as Vice President for Global Strategic Initiatives and Head of Global Growth Operations. August 29, 2023: AAA Associates, a leading real estate organization of Pakistan, and the IBA - Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, the country’s prestigious higher education institution have partnered to establish a Scholarship Endowment fund. With an aim to advance the institute’s financial assistance program for its deserving students, the AAA Associates Scholarship Endowment will benefit deserving students in perpetuity. Executive Director, IBA Karachi, Dr. S Akbar Zaidi, and Managing Director, AAA Associates, Mr. Shahzad Ali Kiani (MBA, Batch of 2012) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi. Under this MOU, the latter will provide financial support to set up an endowment fund which will benefit students in posterity. Other members gracing the event included Mr. Wajid Riaz, General Manager, AAA Associates, Ms. Malahat Awan, Director of Alumni Affairs, Resource Mobilization and Corporate Affairs, IBA Karachi, and Mr. Moeid Sultan, Director Finance, IBA Karachi. Mr. Shahzad shared AAA Associates’ resolve to build a brighter future for our country by investing in education. Dr. S Akbar Zaidi appreciated AAA Associates for its initiative and for supporting IBA Karachi in its mission of providing quality education to all students regardless of their financial backgrounds. To ensure inclusivity, the IBA, through its financial assistance program supports over 30% of its student body every year. August 04, 2023: IBA was honored to host Mr. Ghias Khan
, President & CEO of Engro Corporation, at the IBA City Campus as part of the “Mentorship Program – Transforming Leaders” an initiative of the alumni affairs department. Continuing with the initiative to offer mentorship sessions for mid-career alumni and help them along their professional paths, the first part of the series brought together several alumni to hear Mr. Khan speak. The session titled “Resilience & Reinvention: The Perseverance-Pivot Dynamic” focused on the personal journey and experiences of Mr. Ghias Khan through his professional career. Ms. Malahat Awan welcomed the speaker, Dr. Abdullah Zafar Sheikh (Dean of School of Business Studies, IBA Karachi) and the attendees to the session. She iterated the focus of these sessions and informed the audience that this was the first of many sessions promised by Mr. Ghias Khan. He began his talk by sharing his experiences after graduating from IBA and starting out as an entrepreneur successfully running and selling his 1st company Inbox Technologies. He reinforced the importance of pivoting to identify new opportunities and being open to try new things and not becoming comfortable in the same role which saw him rise through the ranks and take over the mantle of running one of Pakistan’s largest energy & engineering conglomerates. The session covered the different stages of his life and the thought process behind his decision-making and the motivations and targets that Mr. Ghias set for himself. The audience asked questions ranging from what makes a successful leader to how does one identify mentors. Mr. Ghias spoke about the importance of taking chances and being open to new opportunities. “One should work hard AND be present so that when opportunities appear, they can take a chance on them”. Saturday August 05, 2023: The IBA City Campus was buzzing with energy as dozens of startups gathered for the 1st IBA Alumni Startup Summit. The event aimed to bring together alumni and their businesses as well as create networking opportunities between startups, investors, and alumni to find synergies aimed at helping alumni businesses to grow. The participants had the chance to showcase their distinctive businesses and engage with potential investors. The event also featured two-panel discussions, each with an impressive lineup of speakers: The event, offered alumni a unique chance to network, gain insights, and explore avenues for startup ecosystem growth while fostering collaborations and synergies.
