This month has been bustling with activity, notably highlighted by the IBA Leaders Connect event, graced by the presence of several distinguished leaders. We were honored to have Mr. Hussain Dawood, Chairman of Dawood Hercules Corporation and Engro Corporation, among us, who delivered an inspiring speech.
Additionally, we are excited to announce the establishment of the Singapore chapter, strengthening our bond with alumni in the region. This new chapter will serve as a vibrant hub for alumni in the region, providing enriching opportunities for networking, fostering professional growth, and rekindling connections with fellow graduates. The IBA Leaders Connect event, held on February 24th, 2024, at Movenpick Hotel, Karachi, showcased IBA's dedication to nurturing a community of thought leaders and professionals committed to advancing higher education and empowering young individuals to pursue brighter futures.
The event commenced with an opening address by Dr. Shakeel Khoja, Dean of the School of Mathematics and Computer Science, representing Dr. S Akbar Zaidi, the Executive Director of IBA Karachi. Following this, Ms. Malahat Awan, Director of Alumni Affairs, Resource Mobilization & Corporate Affairs, delivered a presentation highlighting IBA's impact and opportunities for partnership. Additionally, Muskan Amjad, a national talent hunt program scholar at IBA and an alumna, shared her inspirational journey with the audience.
The highlight of the event was the keynote address by Chairman, Dawood Hercules Corporation and Engro Corporation, Mr. Hussain Dawood. In his address, Mr. Dawood emphasized the importance of human development based on the values of Character and Good Manners (CGM). To achieve self-actualization and lasting success, he urged the audience to prioritize character building by always upholding the principles of truthfulness, trust, humility, integrity and striving in times of hardship (TTHIS). Mr. Dawood also recapped Engro’s growth journey over the last six decades and the Group’s commitment to invest in human development.
The event also featured an interactive Q&A session with Mr. Dawood, providing attendees with the opportunity for an insightful discussion.
The event was attended by more than 200 individuals. A few notable individuals included Ghias Khan, President & CEO Engro Corporation; Ahsan Zafar Syed, CEO Engro Fertilizers; Jahangir Piracha, CEO Engro Polymer and Chemicals; Farhan Essa, MD Essa Laboratories; Saira Awan Malik, President TCS Private Limited; Sabeen Rabbani, Member BOD Orange Tree Foundation; Zar Badshah, Head of Frontier Coverage - AKD Securities Ltd.; and Ruhail Muhammad, CEO Lucky Power, among many other representatives from leading organizations of the country.
Towards the end of the event, IBA acknowledged and recognized the contribution of the donors who have pledged to support IBA in creating an ecosystem that is comparable to the world's elite higher education institutions. The recognition session included the intended support from Habib Bank Ltd, Orange Tree Foundation, Faysal Bank, Jaffer Family Foundation, and OGDCL, who have come together to support IBA through multiple initiatives that support its infrastructure development and nation-building endeavors.
Ms. Malahat Awan, Director Alumni Affairs, Resource Mobilization & Corporate Relations, made a significant visit to Singapore on February 16, 2024. Accompanied by 27 alumni, she successfully launched the IBA Singapore Alumni Chapter, marking a major milestone for the alumni community. Discussions centered around ways the chapter can support IBA, including mentoring sessions, webinars, virtual guest speakers, and establishing endowment funds. Additionally, Ms. Awan had the pleasure of meeting with Pakistani High Commissioner Ms. Rukhsana Afzaal, who expressed strong solidarity with IBA and its initiatives.
The IBA Alumni Karachi Chapter Elections will take place from March 7-9 at the IBA City Campus, HBL Academic Block. The chapter leadership team includes:

29 FEBRUARY 2024, KARACHI: The 3rd edition of the K-Electric Karachi Awards took place at the Pearl Continental bringing together the who's who of the philanthropic community. The KHI Awards was conceived as a platform to bring equity and support to those institutions that are at the forefront of driving societal change. Many of these organizations experienced a contraction in their inflows, as Pakistan faced consecutive crises from COVID-19 to floods and volatile economic circumstances. Since its inception in 2021, the KHI Awards platform has supported 70 social organizations that have further benefitted an estimated 18 million lives. The third edition also received a resounding response to the call for applications, testifying to its credibility.
This year 44 winners across 14 diverse spectrum of categories – from Safety, Livelihoods & Vocational Training, to Digital Accessibility and Inclusion, and (Primary and Secondary) Healthcare came together and received rebates from K-Electric due to their commitment towards helping those who need it the most.
The Institute of Business Administration, Karachi won in the category of Uplifting Community thanks to the numerous scholarships and initiatives at IBA where student scholarships enable our young scholars to uplift themself and their families by pursuing quality higher education and gainful employment upon their graduation. Ms. Asma Inayat, Head of Marketing & Communications, and Mr. Burhan Allah Saiyed, Senior Manager of Alumni Affairs & Resource Mobilization, received the award on behalf of IBA Karachi.
IBA Karachi is committed to ensuring deserving students receive the help they need to continue their studies and are not denied any opportunity due to their social or financial standing in society. IBA Karachi is the only university that won in any category.
The much anticipated Alum Fest, organized by the IBA Alumni Society, has been postponed to April 27 & 28 due to the weather warnings issued by the government. The event brings together alumni for 2 fun-filled days of networking, amazing food and music. While the postponement is regretted, the safety and participation of our alumni is paramount.
About the Alum Fest: The IBA Alumni Society is inviting alumni for an opportunity to come back to campus... but with their families as well! The Alum Fest 2024 will be a 2 day event including music, networking and a carnival for your little ones to enjoy. This would be a great opportunity to visit both campuses and show your parents, siblings, friends and kids where you spent your best years!
