With lots of changes happening around us, let’s explore ways that we can create a better and productive way forward for everyone. We’re pleased to announce the call for articles for the next issue of our e-magazine and also share with you recent accomplishments by our alumni, some reunions that took place around the world and upcoming events as well! Let’s dive in!

The Alumni Affairs Department is currently preparing the upcoming edition of our Alumni E-Magazine, we would like to invite you to contribute articles that align with the theme of "Transforming challenges into opportunities - unlocking the potential of Pakistan".

IBA Banking & HR alumni discuss the future of work with Mr. Jamal Nasir,
Chief HR Officer at HBL

Saturday June 03, 2023: Over 70 Banking & HR alumni came together for the industry specific reunion at IBA City Campus. Hosted at the city campus, with panoramic views of downtown Karachi, guests had a chance to engage with Mr. Jamal Nasir, Chief HR Officer at HBL, Mr. Mohammed Sohail, Alumni Representative on IBA's Board of Governors and Ms. Malahat Awan, Director of IBA Alumni affairs, Resource Mobilization and corporate affairs. 

Ms. Malahat welcomed everyone to the event and thanked them for joining IBA that day. She informed the audience about IBA's new initiatives of launching chapters around the world and conducting more industry specific events for alumni to come together and grow their networks. Mr. Sohail spoke a few words to welcome the guests and shared his vision to make the community more engaging and cohesive under his role as the IBA BoG member. Ms. Yasmin Zafar, patron of the IBA Alumni and Placement Society and IBA alum & faculty, talked about the importance of alumni coming together and working towards success. 

Mr. Jamal Nasir addressed the alumni about the future of work and the changing role and innovation that AI, data and tech was playing in the Banking and HR sector. He encouraged Pakistanis to have a learning mindset otherwise they would be left behind as the world advanced before us. Answering questions from the attendees, Mr. Nasir talked about how companies can create a culture of growth and learning and also how they can retain talent by providing market benchmarked compensation and growing the talent pool locally and globally. 

The event brought together bankers and professionals from 40+ companies and had alumni as far back as the batch of 1977 attending the event. IBA aims to continue hosting such sessions and invites alumni to connect with the Alumni Affairs office to share their ideas for future events.

Tum Main Aik Aur Cup Chai in collaboration with Tapal!!

IBA Karachi hosted the 2nd of its series in collaboration with Tapal at the JS Auditorium on its City Campus. The Tum, Mein Aik Aur Cup Chai initiative is a youth connection activity aimed at discussing topics that are on the minds of our youth by people they respect and follow. The session brought together the biggest names of the business world with panelists including IBA’s Executive Director Dr. S Akbar Zaidi, Mr. Samar Hayat (CEO, Tapal Tea (Pvt) Ltd), Mr. Kashan Hasan (CEO, Shan Foods & IBA Alum), Mr. Muhammad Fareed Alam (CEO, AKD Securities), Mr. Raza Pirbhai (CEO, KFC Pakistan) and Ms. Misbah Naqvi (Founder & GP, i2i Ventures & IBA Alum). 

The event began with a welcome address by Ms. Hamidah Wali, Chief Marketing Officer at Tapal Tea (Pvt) Ltd. who welcomed the audience and shared the purpose of the gathering. Moderated by Malahat Awan, Director of Alumni Affairs, Resource Mobilization & Corporate Affairs, the event focused on the present and future direction of Pakistan and how businesses can find silver linings in turbulent times. The CEOs brought shed light on identifying untapped opportunities in the market in the manufacturing, services, agriculture, and startup sectors. The conversation identified how city-dwellers can look at the enormous potential of wealth creation in the rural economies where the majority of 250 million Pakistanis live. Pakistanis need numerous products and we can best serve them through our local understanding. 

In order for Pakistan to bear through these times, the panelists talked about consuming “made-in-Pakistan” brands as well as handling our budgets more carefully. The audience enjoyed tea along with the enlightening conversation.

UAE Chapter Meet up

The IBA Alumni UAE Chapter had its first Meet and Greet on the 3rd of June at the Pakistan Association Dubai. The event served as a kick off for the initiatives planned by the new office bearers including setting out the strategy and areas of focus for the Chapter and how the alumni can come together to help achieve them on multiple fronts. The President of the Pakistan Association Dubai was also present and shared the role the Association is playing for the community and how the IBA alumni can help achieve their plans.

We are proud to announce that our esteemed alumnae - Ayesha Jangda  (Class of 2001), , Rimsha Iftikhar  (Class of 2022) , Tayyaba Rasheed (Class of 2002), Iffat Nigar (Class of 2003) &  Arbina Mohsin Qureshi  (Class of 2012) have been included in the WOMANi list of most influential women in Islamic Business and Finance and have been recognized as WOMANi Professional for the year of 2022. 

We are proud to celebrate the achievements of these remarkable women who inspire us all.
