Wednesday, October 30, 2024: The Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, hosted the at the Movenpick Hotel, celebrating the exceptional contributions of its distinguished alumni who have significantly impacted various fields. With an impressive gathering of over 650 alumni and esteemed guests representing over 430 leading organizations from Pakistan and the world, the event was a grand tribute to the remarkable achievements of IBA graduates, whose work continues to influence industries, society, and the nation.
Hosted by Ms. Malahat Awan, Director of Alumni Affairs & Resource Mobilization at IBA Karachi, the ceremony brought the alumni community together for an evening to celebrate the alumni and recognize their achievements. Mr. Mohammad Sohail, Alumni Representative on the Board of Governors at IBA, welcomed the alumni and expressed his gratitude to the IBA fraternity, underscoring recent initiatives to expand alumni engagement and support.
Notable attendees included prominent civic and business leaders such as Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Chairman of the AKD Group; Sulaiman Shahabuddin (Class of 1986), President - Aga Khan University; Ruhail Muhammad (Class of 1986), CEO - Lucky Electric Power Co.; Shabbir Diwan (Class of 1983), CEO - Gatron Industries Ltd; Mohammad Zubair (Class of 1981), former Governor of Sindh; Mian Mohammad Abdullah, Founder - Sapphire Group of Companies; and Mushtaq Chhapra, Founder of The Citizens Foundation and member IBA Board of Governors. Senior faculty, deans, and members of the IBA staff also graced the occasion. Members of IBA's Board of Governors were also in attendance including Saba Kamal & Shahzad Mahmood.
This year’s honorees exemplify the values of excellence, leadership, and service, setting remarkable standards in their respective fields. The awardees include:
· Ali Allawala – Honored for his contributions to Society and Philanthropy as the Founder of KDSP
· Amir Paracha – Recognized for his contributions to Pakistan's Economy, Diversity, and Inclusion & Corporate Excellence in his role as the CEO of Unilever Pakistan
· Tabish Hashmi – Celebrated for his contributions to Pakistan's Performing Arts & Media as a leading host & media personality
· Muhammad Ali – Awarded for his contributions to governance and navigating Pakistan through political & economic turmoil as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) and the former Minister during the Caretaker government
· Farkhanda Jabeen – Commended for her contributions towards promoting DEI & Sports in Pakistan as the Director for the Special Olympics in Pakistan
The IBA Distinction Awards were awarded to exemplary senior alumni who have exhibited excellence in leadership and service to IBA and the community, these included awards for:
· Sardar Abdul Rahim – Founder, Barbecue Tonight for his Excellence in leadership and business acumen
· Shahid Hashmi – Managing Partner, Pure Foods Management, USA for his remarkable entrepreneurship & philanthropic support towards higher education in Pakistan
· Mohsin Nathani – Regional CEO, Habib Bank AG Zurich for his outstanding contributions to Corporate Banking & Commitment to social causes
· Hafsa Shamsie – Managing Director, Roche Pakistan for her Outstanding achievements and invaluable contributions to the industry
Sponsored by leading organizations such as PSO, K Electric, Mari Petroleum, RG Blue, and English Biscuit Manufacturer, the awards ceremony was an inspiring celebration of success and leadership. Dr. Abdullah S Shaikh, Dean of the School of Business Studies, offered the closing remarks. Dinner and networking followed, where alumni, faculty, and friends reminisced and reconnected, marking this as a defining moment in IBA's history of celebrating brilliance and impact.
