IACC Hosts Webinar on Setting Up A Business In Canada

The IBA Alumni Canada Chapter (IACC) hosted a webinar on Setting Up A Business In Canada on Saturday 29 November, 2025. As part of their new initiative, the IBA Alumni Canada Chapter (IACC), with the facilitation of the IBA Alumni Affairs Department, hosted this webinar to educate alumni on the legal process of establishing businesses in Canada with. The session was moderated by the Office-bearers of IACC, Dr. Shahina Nanjiani, President IACC, and Mr. Irfan Iqbal, General Secretary IACC and the session was conducted by senior tax advisor and financial strategist, Mr. Jamal Abbasi, CPA.

The session brought together alumni from around the world to understand some of the strategies for setting up a business in Canada. Mr. Jamal’s detailed presentation shared the pros and cons of each possible option of incorporating your business and provided nuanced examples on many different scenarios shedding light on the liabilities, profit sharing and potential for local or national expansion of said enterprises.

Mr. Jamal also answered questions that addressed specific cases such as how freelancers could setup their business and what would be the impact of adding family members to the business. The session was highly engaging with the audience eager to seek more knowledge.

The highly successful event has opened the doors for similar webinars on topics of interest, especially for Canada-based alumni as well as those alumni who are thinking of relocating to the country. This initiative serves as a blueprint for chapters around the world to engage with their community and leverage the expertise of the highly talented alumni community.
