Alumnus MBA class of 1998, Faraz Waqar, has been part of the driving force behind the global success of 'Mian Biwi aur Wagah' the Middle East's 1st original, Urdu theatre production, written, directed, performed entirely by a group of people from Pakistan and India (team of Goonj Productions) - expats living in UAE for the love of Urdu. Faraz, based in Dubai, is one of the founding members of Goonj Productions. This original theatre production 'Mian Biwi aur Wagah', the first ever theatre production by the team of Goonj Productions, is now a global success story for Urdu. Faraz has contributed to the above production in the capacity of a writer, an actor and especially as a marketing expert, using his marketing skills acquired at the IBA and his years of professional work experience in the fmcg, financial services and education industry.
Faraz and team have had tremendous success in Dubai, New Delhi and Karachi in 2017-18. Their originally written & well marketed play is inspired by real letters and true life experiences of an Indo-Pak couple.
Faraz & the team of Goonj Productions have done 17 sold out performances in Dubai (UAE), New Delhi (India) and Karachi (Pakistan) over the last 1 year. Everywhere they went, they received heartfelt appreciation and standing ovations from their audience. More international performances are scheduled for 2019.
'Mian Biwi aur Wagah' has become the first original, Urdu language production from UAE to ever go international.
Most recently Faraz & team have won the awards for 'Best Regional Language Play', 'Best Original Script' and 'Best New Talent' from the Dubai theatre community.
In Karachi they were the first and only Urdu theatre production ever invited to perform from the Middle East at the prestigious National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA), Karachi as part of the International Theatre and Music Festival in 2018.
